Snow!! Woohoo!! [06 Nov 2009|06:14pm]

We can haz winter!!! Snow! Snow all day today!

It's been an absolutely gorgeous day today - started snowing last night, and hasn't stopped yet. And quite calm, and warm (barely below 0°C). Which meant I was just itching to get out today - really needed to, anyway, and I just couldn't take sitting indoors any longer. So as soon as I was done with the urgent work due today, I decided the new project can wait (i.e. I can just as well start tomorrow) and escaped. Towards the supermarket, really, but with cameras. Even remembered to change the lenses for weather-resistant ones on both mum's and my cameras, so didn't need to worry about the snow.

Picspam. Of course there is picspam. Warning: snow ahead. )

I'm really especially glad we managed to get out today (although I'm completely dedded) as the forecast for the weekend is back to rain. So all the pretteh will be gone. *sniffles*

Argghhhhhh [03 Nov 2009|11:58pm]

[ mood | annoyed ]

I just planted, quite automatically, a bloody four hour crop in FarmVille. Which gets done in four hours and goes to waste in another four. An hour before bed time.

I'm not going to get up at 7:40 just to get to Facebook and save my 36 plots of strawberries. I can live with the loss. But I'm really, really annoyed.

I'm blaming work. Today was a busy day.

In other news, after about a year of wibbling, all this recent talk of eReaders everywhere made me cave in and I've just ordered a Sony Reader on eBay. Fingers crossed that it actually makes it to me - it's easily the most expensive thing I've bought on eBay. But the seller had 100% positive feedback (and a lot of it), so... hoping for the best.

[ mood | aggravated ]

Bloody fuses just blew out again on my side of the flat. That makes twice in two days.

What's more, that makes twice in two days that it didn't even seem to have a reason, such as turning on a light, turning on the kettle .. that sort of thing. No, yesterday it was one of the bulbs in my ceiling lamp, which had been happily on for hours, that just went "bup!" and darkness came, and today it was the lamp in the kitchen.

Just ... really not happy about this. Especially as I'm starting to get worried about the computer - it can't be good for it to get sudden shutdowns like this.

Remind me again why we had an electrician come round in January, with the explicit aim of fixing this? Not a very cheap one, either. Can't even count the times it's happened again since.

I suppose it's possible that with the dark and cold time arriving, everyone around us suddenly has lots more lights on, electrical radiators plugged in (although central heating seems rather sufficient right now) etc and the overall load is just too much... but... blegh.

And I have a fever. And a very runny (and now sore, red and achy) nose. No wonder I've been feeling miserable all day. And not getting a single word of work done. :-/

On the other hand, I watched this week's Sarah Jane Adventures (woo!) earlier and read a whole real book (Doctor Who: The Eyeless, which I rather enjoyed) almost without breaks, so at least there have been some nice things about the day.

Had a miserable night. Woke up way too early for a Saturday, after far too little sleep, as I couldn't breathe through my nose any more. Grrrr.

Why is it that a nose that is so blocked and dry that one can't even blow it, while being in bed, turns into an annoyingly runny nose about three minutes after finally giving up and getting out of bed?

Hungry now. Ought to have breakfast, I suppose, after doing ... well, nothing whatsoever, really, for three hours. And then do some work.
Semi-planned to go to town today, as we're still out of dry food for the kittehs, but the icy rain isn't very inviting.

Quince [29 Oct 2009|09:40pm]

kribu
[ mood | curious ]

I saw some rather appealing looking quinces at the market today and bought one, for the first time. It was only after slicing it up that I looked it up online and found that one isn't apparently supposed to eat them raw, as they're too hard and sour.

Did I just get a very rare specimen? Because it tastes quite fine to me. Hard and sourish, yes, but no more so than a Granny Smith apple. Quite pleasant, really.

Shiny! Squeee! [29 Oct 2009|06:03pm]

[ mood | excited ]

Just dragged myself up a lot of flights of stairs, with heavy shopping bags in both hands and on my back, quite dedded... and look what waited for me in my mailbox, as I flopped down onto my poor, abused chair!

Shiny!

Thank you, everyone, who nominated Night for best drabble in the [info]sshg_awards! I really didn't expect anything of mine to get nominated for anything, so this is a wonderful surprise.
